History Wizard
I tried the "Yoruba" exhibit and was not impressed. Slow load graphics and a menu that seems to go with each mouse click... For some reason, only two clicks into the exhibit, pages began to load blank. I tried the "American Imperialism" exhibit with much the same results. The page needs some work to compress and eliminate the displays that should be on content and not commercial ads. Try the "Smithsonian Natural History Web: African Voices" link below after visiting this site to see how it should be done.
History Center
Commercial ads clutter the menu and all of the text/information pages. It seemed to be worth a few clicks, so I tried "Religion" and then "Jesus" and was rewarded with a short paragraph of basic information. All of the other space in the frame and the entire left frame was occupied by commercial ads. Best advice...skip it for "History" sites that offer much more content.

One of the very best sites I have visited recently, primarily due to a "state of the art" interface and the detailed information available on each of the objects displayed from the vast collection in the online exhibits and samples from the various collections. The information extends about as far as you might want a middle or secondary student to go, down to detatils about sections and parts of various art works. Try a couple of screen shots of the interface and show the students the great navigational tools. Some of the active areas of the display (that trigger links to more information) are not immediately evident, but that's what keeps the display simple. Layers of great information are just below the attractive surface.

Student browsers will have several choices: Text Search - Free-text search across multiple fields Artist/Maker - Search for particular artists or makers Department - Search for particular department of museum (e.g., ancient art, modern art, etc.) Date - Search before, after or between particular years.
KAPPLER'S INDIAN AFFAIRS: LAWS AND TREATIES
A seven volume compilation of U.S. treaties, laws and executive orders pertaining to Native American Indian tribes, with specific information on the treaties with Native Americans from 1778-1883 (Volume II) and U.S. laws and executive orders concerning Native Americans from 1871-1970 (Volumes I, III-VII). "The work was first published in 1903-04 by the U.S. Government Printing Office. Enhanced by the editors' use of margin notations and a comprehensive index, the information contained in Indian Affairs: Laws and Treaties is in high demand by Native peoples, researchers, journalists, attorneys, legislators, teachers and others of both Native and non-Native origins." Before this project and Web page began, there were only five usable copies in the state of Oklahoma.
